I’ve seen other launches give some great material and resources, but nothing like this so far. Obviously the Shapeshifter Body Redesign system is something completely new and there has been a lot of information thrown at us over the last few days. It’s because of the overwhelming response that Ryan and Adam thought it would be a good idea to answer some of the most frequently asked questions.
It’s important to have all the answers you need so you can make an educated decision on June 21st when the Shapeshifter Body Redesign is released. I usually like to rewrite stuff in my own words, but there are so many questions below I’ve decided to just copy and paste the questions and answers. So read through them now so on June 21st you’ll know if Shapeshifter is something for you.

Q: Do I need any equipment for the Shapeshifter Body Redesign program?

Q: Does the Shapeshifter Body Redesign program take a lot of time?

Workouts range from as little as 15-20 minutes up to as much as 50 minutes per day. You?ll be doing something every day. But because you?re using bodyweight exercises, you can easily slip these workouts into your schedule for maximum results.
Q. I’m 68 years old. I watched some of your exercise videos, and I wonder if I’m going to be able to do some of them?
Don’t worry, age is not be an issue. One of Adam’s favorite clients is in her mid-eighties and she can do the majority of these movements! What you’re not seeing is the steps it took to get there. Everyone has to start somewhere, and we did too. Take the program at your own pace and build up your exercise volume gradually. Start with a lower number of rounds and work your way up. What matters is “progressive resistance” — you’re starting at a level that challenges you, and you’re slowly increasing the challenge as your body adapts.

Q: Some of the exercises look really hard. Are there modifications at the beginning for those of us just starting out?
Almost all of the movements in the Shapeshifter Exercise Library are demonstrated with modifications that will make them accessible to folks of any level of fitness. Q: There are so many different body types. How does your nutrition plan create the body I want and need when my body type is different than other people’s?

You can also print off the Charts for a handy overview of each workout. Just be sure to consult your Shapeshifter Academy manual to see how many rounds you should do that day.
Q: Is this a paper copy or is it just electronic?
Shapeshifter is completely downloadable. All manuals and charts come in printable PDF’s, and you can watch all the videos in your download portal, on your computer, or on your smartphone. No need to wait for the postman! We are considering a DVD version of Shapeshifter but haven’t yet decided if we’ll do a print run.
Q: I prefer learning from print rather than video. Will Shapeshifter still work for me?

Q: I really like the NO EQUIPMENT concept. But even some bodyweight exercises require equipment – how else can you do an inverted row?
We created a Shapeshifter Pulling Plugin for those who would like to include such movements using portable equipment. All “plugins” are designed as expansion modules for the main course, so you can keep getting more bang for your buck from the program you’ve already purchased. Q: Will your program really work for a 70 year old mom with a sack of potatoes shape?
Yes mom, even you can redesign your body. Everyone starts somewhere, and we did to. If you find an exercise that feels like too much, we’ll help you break it down into accessible steps. Q: I practice karate and this program seems to have what I need! Will it benefit my martial arts training?

Q: I have a bad back, a bum knee, banged up shoulders and a sorely strained sense of motivation. Can I still use the Shapeshifter program to redesign my messed up body?
Yes, definitely. First, make sure your doctor has specifically cleared you for exercise. If he or she tells you not to do a certain type movement, follow that advice to the letter, and ask us for a substitute. Second, take everything at your own pace and feel things out. Q: I tried a few of your deceptively simple looking exercises and I can barely do them a couple of times, even the modified version! i think it looks great, but is it accessible for all body sizes and fitness levels?
Everyone’s got a range or a type of exercise that they find difficult. A good program is designed to smoke out those weak points. You’ll get better on those exercises if you stick with them. You won’t necessarily enjoy the ones that target your trouble spots, but you will get better — and you’ll be able to stare them in their beady little eyes and give it right back.
Q: Does this work for people who are really not in shape, haven’t worked out in a while? I also have some physical issues.
Yes, Shapeshifter is completely accessible for folks who haven’t worked out in a while. Regarding your physical issues, you should always get cleared by your doctor for any exercise program. Once you do, we can help you come up with variations or alternatives to exercises that your doc advises you not to do. Don’t worry — no one starts out as a blank slate. We didn’t either.
Q: I get really motivated when I watch your videos, but I never manage to stay on a program for more than a couple weeks. How do I remain consistent?
You need to be part of something larger than yourself. Get a training partner. Join a group. Get a trainer. Or join an online community like Shapeshifter. Sharing your goals and your struggles with a like-minded group of peers will keep you motivated and keep you on track. It’s tough to change your lifestyle when those you spend the most time with don’t support your change or take an interest in it. Q: What about people who are really skinny? Your program talks a lot about helping people lose weight and burn fat, but I’ve always struggled to gain weight. Can you help me?
Yes, Shapeshifter will help you. Ryan is 6’3″ and he was always lean and skinny as a kid. He was also deceptively strong, but he had a difficult time putting on muscle. A lot of it had to do with his diet. He wasn’t eating nearly enough calories, and definitely not enough protein. The type of workout you do is also important. Today, he’s able to pack on visible muscle in less than two weeks. The lessons he learned are incorporated into our program. Shapeshifter is a great starting point for “hard gainers.” You’ll build some lean muscle mass and you’ll nail down the diet and lifestyle components that you need to reach your goal.
Q: All this talk about nutrition is great, but it doesn’t work if your digestive system isn’t functioning properly. Do you guys address this in your program?

Q: Can I still use this method while trying to bulk up?

Q: I hear you talk about older people getting back into shape. But I’m 18 years old. I’m decent shape but I still have that last bit of fat preventing me from seeing my abs. Can Shapeshifter help me?

Q: I lost my job two years ago and started to gain weight almost immediately. I had all the classic symptoms of a mid-life crisis i.e. depression, denial, withdrawal from social activities, increase in junk foods, loss of self respect, you get the idea. I want to break out of this, but it feels like I’m too far gone from my goals of returning to the fit person I used to be. I spend all my energy just battling these demons. Can Shapeshifter pull me out of my downward spiral?
You are NEVER too far from your goals to start working towards them. You just have take them “inch by inch.” You’re describing exactly the same process we’ve seen happen time and time again. Q: Has Ryan used this routine? He appears awfully thin and doesn’t seem to match the “ideal type” you’re talking about.
Ryan writes: “Yes, definitely. I’m a writer primarily, and my other job sometimes gets in the way. Just before we filmed Shapeshifter I spent a month in New Caledonia (South Pacific) and northern Japan. I’m naturally thin and the so-called “hard gainer” type. I normally lose 5 to 10 pounds on a travel assignment – depending on the nature of the trip, they can take a lot out of you. It takes me 2 to 3 weeks to return to my usual weight and put muscle back on. These days I’m back to my usual 186 lbs at 6’3″. I’ve actually picked up a lot of really cool tips for the hardgainer types over the years, and that’s something we might share in a future Shapeshifter plug in.
Q: I have a lot of postural instability/strength imbalances from years of sitting at a desk all day, and my back is in agony when I wake up every morning. I have very weak abs and very tight hip flexors, and other issues, but I’m hoping to start by focusing on just the Regen for a week or two. Or should I just do the entire program as is and not worry about it?
We would suggest starting with the full program, but throttling back on the workouts at the beginning. Go slow and deep into all the exercises. They should HELP with the imbalances you’re describing. We also recommend you pick up the Shapeshifter Pulling Plugin (you’ll get details about this with your Shapeshifter purchase). It fits seamlessly with the main program and will add a pulling element using suspension training gear.
Q: I get bored so easily with workouts. The faster I see results the more interested I am. How long are the sessions, and will they keep my interest?
The nice thing about Shapeshifter is the variety. It’s hard to get bored because each day and each week is slightly different. The workouts also vary in length. Some days may only be 15 minutes, while others may be 45 minutes. But on average you can count on around 30 minutes per session.
Q: I’m female and concerned about osteoporosis. Will your program help to strengthen my bones?
Any resistance training coupled with a healthy nutrition plan will promote improved bone density — including bodyweight exercise.
Q: I’m the textbook definition of the on-the-road 8 months out of the year person. I live in hotels, and I barely have time to work out. Can I still redesign my body?
Yes, all of the exercise routines in Shapeshifter are meant to be done “anytime, anywhere.” They’re bodyweight only, so you don’t need equipment. And you can do them in a hotel room, your living room, backyard, office or the park around the corner. The program is designed to fit YOUR life — not the other way around.
Q: Too bad this does not seem to address anything for those of us who are clumsy, extremely obese, and just HATE exercise. For me, it just seems like a waste of time to try it since it never works and I am still just a fat old cow. Moo.
We can definitely help you improve your coordination (ie. clumsiness), and we can present a plan to help you lose weight (ie. obesity), but we’re not going to change your mind about exercise if you’ve simply decided to hate it. Whether you like to exercise or not is irrelevant. What matters is whether or not you want to change. How bad do you want to reach your goal? If you’re not willing to suck it up and do something you’re not crazy about a few times each week – but that you know will help you – then we’re sorry, you’re not going to reach your goal. It doesn’t happen unless you’re willing to do the work. That part is entirely up to you.
Q: At 73, I find it hard to do the individual exercises because I’m not very flexible. Is their a way of getting the flexibility so I can do most of the exercises in your program?
Don’t worry, there’s no “prerequisite” for starting out. You’ll recover flexibility naturally as you move through the Shapeshifter program. Just do it at your own pace and very gradually increase the range of motion. Add in the exercises that you are able to do as your range of motion improves.
Q: Will bodyweight exercise really help me get the toned and lean physique I’m looking for without making me a lot smaller?
Yes, bodyweight training alone will shed fat like crazy, and it’ll definitely keep you toned. We use it exclusively when we travel – sometimes for months at a time. But if your goal is to gain more extreme mass or to put on a very large amount of muscle, then you’re going to have to lift heavy weight.
Q: Do you have any programs that include weights?
We’ve created several “plugin” modules for the Shapeshifter program that’ll allow you to introduce different elements to the main program so you can keep getting bang for your buck from the original. They function like a software expansion module. So far we’ve built plugins that focus on pull up variations (using portable equipment), and one that focuses on extra arm and shoulder work using portable resistance bands. Shapeshifter weight training modules are definitely on our radar.
Q: Will I be able to perform these workouts as an absolute and total beginner?
Yes, definitely. We provide “regressions” in most of the exercise videos – variations you can use to work up to the full exercise. And we’re also here to help you create workarounds and smaller steps if you can’t quite do a particular exercise yet. There’s always a way to break a movement down into accessible steps no matter what your fitness level. Body redesign is accessible to anyone.
Q: Do I have to be a bookworm to understand how to use your program? I just want to be told what to do. And I’m lazy.
Shapeshifter presents a 6 week program that lays out exactly what you need to do on each and every day. We give piles of theory stuff for those who are interested in knowing why they’re doing something, but those who aren’t interested in the background can simply go to each day of the program and follow the directions.
Q: Is Shapeshifter only for men? Is there a version for women?
The program is for both women and men. Half the beta testers of the program were women and they had phenomenal results.
Q: Can’t you just tell me how to do the minimum? I don’t want to change my diet, and I really don’t like exercising. I want a body redesign that fits with what I’m doing right now.
